This car will make its debut at the 2013 Buffalo Auto Show, on February 6 – February 10.

“I am really excited for next year. Our business partners, dedicated employees, and loyal customers made 80 years in business a reality,” stated Flanigan. “We had GFORCE RACE CARS build us a brand new 2013 Camaro and we will have a new 680 CID power plant from JANCEN Racing Engines. I can’t thank NOCO enough for giving us all of the tools necessary to contend for a championship.”

Flanigan, who has driven for the race marketing team at NOCO for the past 8 seasons, will challenge for the 2013 points title in the Canadian Quick32 Series and also plans to run select IHRA, NHRA, and ADRL top sportsman events throughout the Northeast.

“Since our grandfather purchased his first coal truck in 1933, to our father and uncle expanding our portfolio of products and services, NOCO has grown to become a respective leader, both locally and nationally, in the energy business and one of the largest independent fuel distributors and suppliers in the Northeast,” said James D. Newman, president. “We mark our 80th anniversary with a continued commitment to the communities we serve through the breadth of services and products we offer – at home, at work, and on the go.”

NOCO’s product portfolio includes commercial and residential fuels, lubricants, natural gas, electricity, heating and cooling, and propane. The company now serves more than 50,000 commercial and residential customers in New York, Vermont, Western Pennsylvania, and parts of Ohio, West Virginia, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. NOCO’s Canadian operations reach customers throughout Eastern Ontario and Southern Quebec. NOCO Express stores serve more than 15 million customers annually.

TONAWANDA, NY – NOCO, a family owned and locally operated energy company is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2013. To mark the occasion, NOCO is planning a series of special events, activities, and promotions that highlight the company’s commitment to Western New York.

Throughout 2013, NOCO will give back to its hometown community through various charitable donations and activities. Plus, NOCO Express will host 80th anniversary celebrations across their 35 retail convenience stores in July. Additional special events will be announced throughout the year-long anniversary.

“Marking 80 years in the turbulent energy business is truly a great accomplishment for the Newman family. Throughout the decades we have been able to continually evolve our offerings and product selection based on the needs of our commercial and residential customers,” said Michael F. Newman, executive vice president. “We are proud of our strong Western New York roots and heritage and we look forward to providing our customers with their energy needs and solutions now and for generations to come.”

Founded in Tonawanda in 1933 by Reginald B. Newman, NOCO started out supplying coal to residential customers. After its incorporation in 1948 to R.B. Newman Fuel Company, NOCO began delivering home heating oil as the demand for coal decreased. In 1950, the company expanded to serve small commercial and industrial customers with lubricants, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Reginald’s sons Donald F. and Reginald B. Newman II, joined the company in 1954 and 1960, respectively, and continued the growth of the company by broadening NOCO’s product lines and distribution area.

In 1973, NOCO acquired a 33-million gallon storage facility in Tonawanda from the Gulf Oil Company and purchased the adjacent 10-million gallon operation from Ashland Oil to give the company more than 43 million gallons of petroleum storage capacity, which the company continues to maintain today at its Tonawanda Fuel Terminal. NOCO entered the retail convenience store business in 1984 with its first NOCO Express location.

In 2001, Jim and Michael Newman were named president and executive vice president, respectively, carrying the business into the third generation. Under their leadership, the company has significantly expanded its geography through acquisitions and new ventures, including lubricant operations in Pittsburgh, PA and northern West Virginia and commercial and residential fuel operations in Eastern Ontario, Canada including Ottawa.

Today, NOCO’s product portfolio includes commercial and residential fuels, lubricants, natural gas, electricity, heating and cooling, and propane. NOCO operates 35 NOCO Express retail convenience stores, serving more than 15 million customers annually, and supplies branded and unbranded gasoline to a growing dealer network.

As a locally-owned company, NOCO is proud to be one of the largest private sector employers in Western New York, with approximately 650 full time and part time associates locally and more than 800 company wide.

TONAWANDA, NY – NOCO Express, a family owned and locally operated convenience store chain, celebrated the grand opening of its newest and largest store in the company’s history. Located at 4221 Walden Avenue at the corner of Pavement Road in Lancaster, the 6,000-square-foot newly constructed store introduces a travel center and commercial diesel fueling stations.

The location features a variety of meal options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Open 24-hours daily, Tim Hortons offers customers a selection of coffees, specialty beverages, sandwiches, and baked goods. For added convenience, a drive-thru is available. Subway, also located within the new store, is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. This store offers a line of specialty beverages including fountain soda featuring flavor shots, f’real milkshakes, Slush Puppie ice drinks, and other frozen beverages. Customers can enjoy their sandwich or beverage in a café-like seating area offering free Wi-Fi and national news programming.

As a boutique travel center, the newest NOCO Express offers three commercial diesel fueling stations as well as a variety of items for truck drivers, including a bulk diesel exhaust fluid fueling system.

“We’ve come a long way in evolving our current convenience store model from the first store we opened in 1984,” said Michael F. Newman, executive vice president. “As NOCO celebrates its 80th anniversary, we are proud to open the largest NOCO Express in our portfolio; it’s also the first store that offers a variety of features to meet the needs of both our on-the-go customers and commercial truck drivers.”

The Walden and Pavement store was constructed with several environmentally friendly building technologies to reduce energy consumption. These include low watt LED lighting, a refrigeration energy management system and white roofing for increased light reflectivity.

A light harvesting system was installed utilizing 16 skylights that allow natural light into the store. There is an energy management control system that automatically dims the store lighting fixtures during the peak daylight hours on an as needed basis. The store is also equipped with the mechanical infrastructure to accommodate electrical charging stations in the future as more electric cars start hitting the streets.

NOCO hired 32 employees to accommodate the customer needs of the new store. This grand opening brings the total number of NOCO Express stores to 35 in Western New York.

Like a lot of people, I have developed a slight addiction to Pinterest. I can spend hours browsing through all of the photos of yummy recipes and tips for beautifying my home or simplifying my life. While browsing the other day, I came upon this photo:

When you click through to the blog post, the author explains how she hid her security system under the canvas. It looked fantastic! I immediately thought, “I wonder if I can do that with a thermostat?”

So I called up Bill and Mike, our NOCO Heating and Cooling experts and asked if this was something I could do with my thermostat. They explained that while you can cover up your thermostat, they do not recommend it.

Your thermostat contains vents to receive air and measure the temperature of the air; if those vents are covered, your thermostat will not get an accurate reading of the temperature. Covering your thermostat with anything can drive up your utility costs and cost you more money.

In conclusion, our heating and cooling experts think this is a great idea for other unsightly control panels, but it is not ideal for your thermostats.

If a winter storm is in the forecast, don’t let your heating oil supply run low. Consider automatic delivery, which allows us to monitor your tank levels and takes the stress off of knowing when it needs to be refilled.

If you have an in-ground tank, clearly mark the fill pipes for your delivery driver. A thin wire stake with the colored flag works well, as long as it is higher than the average snow cover depth.

Clearing excess snow and ice before the delivery drive arrives not only ensures his safety, but also allows for a timely delivery.

When possible, use a broom to clear snow and ice from all of your equipment, as a shovel may cause damage.
