NOCO Unveils Newly Rebuilt Store

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY – NOCO Express Stores today unveiled its newly rebuilt gasoline convenience store at 4590 Genesee Street, on the corner of Holtz Street across from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The store will open to the public on December 13th.

The former 1,600 square foot store was demolished in early September and is being replaced with a 5,000 square foot state of the art store featuring NOCO’s “store within a store” concept, new convenient amenities for customers such as a kiosk for check-in at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and various green building technologies to reduce energy consumption.

“NOCO Express continues to raise the bar in bringing high quality products and amenities to our customers at home, at work and on the go,” said Michael F. Newman, NOCO executive vice president. “The convenience store industry is continuously evolving and we are proud to offer a variety of new features to our customers in addition to constructing our most environmentally friendly store to date.”

NOCO also has hired an additional 14 employees to accommodate the customer needs of the new store, bringing the total workforce at the store to twenty-one employees.

The store was constructed with several building technologies to reduce energy consumption, including low watt LED lighting, a refrigeration energy management system and white roofing for increased light reflectivity.  A light harvesting system was installed utilizing skylights that allow natural light into the store and an energy management control system that automatically dims the store lighting during the daylight hours on an as needed basis. The store is also equipped with the infrastructure to accommodate electrical charging stations for electric cars in the future.

The new NOCO Express offers customers meal options for breakfast, lunch and dinner with an evolution of the traditional Charlie The Butcher Express concept – Taste What Buffalo is all About,” which will serve Charlie’s signature fresh carved beef on weck, turkey and carve of the day along with the introduction of a hot breakfast menu and full pizza and chicken wing offerings. Charlie The Butcher will be open from 6 a.m. – 11 p.m. daily with delivery also available. In addition, customers can select from a variety of grab-and-go items, such as NOCO’s signature Nickel City Roast premium blend coffees, sandwiches, salads and fresh fruit.

Due to the proximity to the airport, the new store features a real time departure and arrival screen for guests to monitor flight times and also a kiosk where one can check in and print boarding passes. The store also offers expanded cooler and merchandising space along with a walk-in beverage cooler lending to an increased variety of on-the-go products.

Is it Time to Change Your Furnace Filter?

As the temperature drops, we begin to use our heater more and more. And the more we use our heater; the closer we get to needing a replacement furnace.  So what can you do to get the most out of your heater?

Changing your furnace filter is one thing you can do to prolong replacing your furnace.  It can also cut down on furnace repairs, which let’s face it, arrive only when it’s an emergency, and you need it fixed right away.

A dirty air filter can also cause your system to run inefficiently.  That’s why NOCO Heating Pros recommend you change your furnace filter once per season.  That is once at the beginning of the heating season, (when you first turn your heater on) and once at the beginning of the cooling season (when you start using that air conditioner).   This helps eliminate the dirt and dust that can affect your air flow and may even cause your furnace to require repairs.

So if you haven’t done so this season, head to the furnace and change your filter.  It could save you money and time.

Energy Saving Tips

We know when it comes to energy costs every little bit matters so we have come up with a list of Energy Saving Tips to help you make it through the cold Western New York winter with a little extra cash.

  • Keep the Heat In  – Plug your home’s leaks. Install weather-stripping or caulk leaky doors and windows and install gaskets behind outlet covers.  This can save you up to 10% on your energy costs.
  • Insulate your hot water tank -if you have a conventional hot water heater, wrap the hot water tank with jacket insulation. This is especially valuable for older water heaters with little internal insulation. Be sure to leave the air intake vent uncovered when insulating a gas water heater. This too, can save you up to 10 percent on water heating costs.
  • Look up  – If your ceiling is not insulated or insufficiently insulated, increase your insulation to up to R-38 to reduce heating costs by 5 to 25 percent.
  • Try a slow cooker meal instead - Did you know your dinner can save you energy? Small appliances are great energy savers that can save you money all year long. Slow cookers (crock-pots) are perfect for busy families. On average, they will cook a whole meal for about 17 cents worth of electricity.
  • Bundle Up – Reduce the temperature on your thermostat and wear socks and a sweater indoors. Lowering the thermostat by just one degree Fahrenheit can reduce energy use by 3 percent.
  • Look at the windows – Open south-facing window curtains, drapes and blinds during the day. Close window coverings at night to keep the heat in.
  • Switch and save – if you haven’t already done so, switch to NOCO as your energy supplier and take advantage of deregulation in New York State.

NOCO Teams Up with the Buffalo Sabres!

NOCO and the Buffalo Sabres

NOCO is proud to announce  a sponsorship deal with the Buffalo Sabres for the 2011-2012 hockey season.  The deal will feature NOCO’s iconic green and orange logo and new tagline “At Home, At Work, and On the Go!” on center ice at First Niagara Center.   It is perfect timing to team up with the Buffalo Sabres as Terry Pegula (Sabres new owner) and his family revolutionize the team with their personable and family oriented approach.

“The Buffalo Sabres organization is very grateful to NOCO Energy Corporation for their continued sponsorship and support of the team,” said Sabres Vice President of Sales and Business Development John Livsey.  “NOCO is a well-respected local company with deep roots in the community and we are proud to have the Newman family and all of the NOCO employees on our corporate roster.”

What exactly does “At Home, At Work, and On the Go!” mean?  At home we provide natural gas, electricity, heating oil, and propane, as well as repair and install heating and cooling systems.  At work we supply businesses with the fuels, lubricants and energy products that keep them on the move.  And on the go we keep customers fueled up with gasoline, food and coffee through our Express stores.

We’re looking forward to a great season.  Go Sabres!
